The National Pension Commission (PenCom) has extended the deadline for the mandatory One-Time Online Verification and Enrolment Exercise for employees of treasury-funded Federal Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to December 31, 2026.
PenCom announced the extension in a statement, on Tuesday September 15, saying the exercise, which began in February and was initially scheduled to end on July 31, was extended following requests from MDAs for more time. The commission urged eligible employees yet to enrol, as well as those who started but have not completed the process, to use the additional period.
The exercise is designed to determine accurately the accrued pension rights of employees who moved from the former Defined Benefit Scheme to the Contributory Pension Scheme in 2004. PenCom said that by July, MDAs had uploaded 62,320 records, but only 31,099 employees had completed enrolment, compared with an estimated 150,000 active Federal Government employees entitled to accrued pension rights.
PenCom said the digital exercise, conducted through its Contributions and Bond Redemption Application (COBRA), is essential for determining outstanding Federal Government pension liabilities and making budgetary provisions for their settlement. Eligible employees are expected to complete the process through their Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs), with Pension Desk Officers coordinating the exercise within MDAs, while the commission urged all concerned not to wait until the new deadline.
