Petrol prices in Calabar have risen to between N1,450 and N1,500 per litre, according to checks by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Residents and business owners told NAN that the increase is putting additional pressure on transportation and production costs. Mary Ubong, an official of a major petrol outlet, said the wholesale price had increased by about N85 per litre, forcing retailers to adjust their pump prices.
Businesswoman Rita Johnson said the higher petrol price was already affecting the cost of processing her products. She said grinding a bowl of tigernut, which previously cost between N600 and N700, now costs N1,500.
Reports attributed the latest wholesale price adjustment to Dangote Refinery on Sept. 12, with the price reportedly rising from about N1,265 to N1,350 per litre. The latest increase is also being felt in transportation, food and other daily expenses.
