The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old woman, Mrs Ogechi Ofoma, over the alleged abuse of her seven-year-old daughter, Oluebube Ofoma, in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, on Monday September 14, said the command received a report on Sept. 13 concerning alleged child abuse and serious injuries involving the girl. Security personnel from the Ibollo community in Awada-Obosi and concerned residents reportedly rescued the child and apprehended her mother.
Ikenga said preliminary information indicated that the girl had allegedly suffered severe physical abuse. The police have commenced an investigation and are working with the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs Chinyere Onyekesi, to ensure the child receives urgent medical attention, protection and welfare support.
The command commended the community members for their prompt intervention and assured the public that the investigation would be thorough and professional. It also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting vulnerable persons and ensuring accountability in accordance with the law.
