Police in Ondo State have arrested a welder, Andy Giwa, over the alleged unlawful possession and handling of a locally fabricated pistol in Uso, Owo Local Government Area. The firearm was recovered following credible intelligence received by the command on Sept. 11, 2026.
Police spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said operatives attached to Uso Police Division raided the suspect’s workshop and recovered the pistol before taking him into custody for questioning. Giwa reportedly told investigators that the firearm belonged to another individual whose identity is yet to be established and who is currently at large.
The Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, has directed the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet and comprehensive investigation. Authorities are expected to determine the source, intended use and circumstances surrounding the firearm, as well as identify anyone else connected to the case.
The police commended the citizen who provided the information and urged residents to continue reporting suspicious activities and unlawful possession of firearms. The command assured that informants’ identities would be protected and reaffirmed its commitment to intelligence-led policing and preventing the proliferation of illegal firearms in the state.
