Dr Nonye Soludo, wife of the Anambra Governor on Friday, September 11, condemned the alleged sexual abuse and exploitation of a child by her mother in Onitsha, describing the report as deeply disturbing and unacceptable.
The Anambra Police Command had earlier arrested the 36-year-old mother, Anulika Onyeanusia, over alleged child sexual abuse and pornography. Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspect was being investigated.
Soludo commended the police and others involved in the rescue of the four children, urging a thorough, transparent and professional investigation to establish the full facts and identify anyone else who may have been involved.
She said her immediate concern was the welfare of the rescued children, particularly their emotional and psychological wellbeing, and pledged to work with relevant authorities to ensure they receive appropriate medical, psychological and rehabilitation support.
The governor’s wife also urged parents, guardians and community members to remain vigilant and report threats to children’s safety, stressing that silence should never be an option when a child is at risk.
