Nigeria is set to use the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi, India, as another platform to strengthen relations with key international partners.
Vice President Kashim Shettima will represent President Bola Tinubu at the Sept. 12–13 summit, where leaders of BRICS member and partner countries are expected to discuss global economic growth, multilateral cooperation and shared development priorities.
According to presidential aide Stanley Nkwocha, Nigeria’s participation will focus on opportunities in trade, investment, energy, agriculture, solid minerals, technology and innovation. Shettima is also expected to hold bilateral engagements with leaders and senior officials from participating countries.
Nigeria became a BRICS partner country in January 2025. The Federal Government says its participation is aimed at strengthening South-South cooperation, attracting investment and expanding markets for Nigerian products.
