The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has threatened to resume its suspended nationwide strike over unpaid salaries and what it described as poor implementation of the 2025 agreement.
ASUU President Christopher Piwuna said three-and-a-half months out of seven-and-a-half months in withheld salaries remained unpaid, despite the payment of four months by the Federal Government. He also raised concerns over salary deductions for pensions, cooperative societies and ASUU check-off dues which he said had allegedly not been remitted for several months.
Piwuna warned that the union could call out its members for nationwide industrial action if the outstanding issues were not satisfactorily addressed. He also criticised the reported tenure extension of the Osun State University Vice-Chancellor and backed calls for a review of the National Minimum Wage.
ASUU said it remained open to dialogue with the Federal and state governments, while urging stakeholders to help prevent another disruption to university education.
