Nigeria’s Falconets played out a goalless draw with China in their second Group F match at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland on Thursday, September 10.
The encounter at Arena Sosnowiec saw both teams create several chances, but neither could find the breakthrough. Nigeria’s Janet Akekoromowei and Kafayat Mafisere came close, while goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma made important saves to keep a clean sheet. The Falconets were also awarded a penalty in the 74th minute, but the decision was overturned after a VAR review.
The result leaves Spain top of Group F with six points, followed by China on four points. Nigeria occupy third place with one point, while New Caledonia are bottom without a point. The Falconets will face New Caledonia in their final group match in Łódź on Sunday, needing a positive result to improve their chances of reaching the knockout stage.
Nigeria have reached the U-20 Women’s World Cup final twice, finishing runners-up in 2010 and 2014, but are yet to win the title. The 2026 tournament, which began on Sept. 5, will run until Sept. 27 in Poland.
