CHINA-AFRICA ZERO-TARIFF POLICY OPENS NEW TRADE AND INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES

China’s zero-tariff policy for African goods is creating new opportunities for trade and investment between China and African countries, according to Xinhua News Agency senior journalist Wang Jiang.

Wang said demand for African products in China is growing, with products such as African coffee and South African apples increasingly available in Chinese markets. He added that lower tariffs could make African products more competitive while encouraging Chinese companies to invest in Africa.

The policy, which took effect on May 1, grants duty-free access to goods from all 53 African countries with which China has diplomatic ties. It also extends zero tariffs to 20 non-Least Developed Countries, including Nigeria, Kenya and Egypt, subject to rules of origin.

Wang said increased exports to China could support African industries and jobs, while noting that travel convenience remains a challenge for exporters. The policy is expected to further shape China-Africa trade and business relations.
