The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has received the Nigerian Economic Society’s (NES) Distinguished Organisation Award for its institutional reforms and contributions to Nigeria’s macroeconomic stability and economic development.
The award was presented at the 67th Annual Conference of the NES, held in Abuja from September 7 to September 10, with the Director of the CBN’s Monetary Policy Department, Dr Victor Oboh, receiving it on behalf of Governor Olayemi Cardoso.
The recognition followed reforms in the foreign exchange and financial sectors, including the clearance of longstanding FX obligations, ending Ways and Means financing to the Federal Government, implementation of Payment System Vision 2028 and the recapitalisation of the banking industry. The NES said the measures had contributed to easing inflationary pressures, stronger external reserves and greater stability in the foreign exchange market.
Cardoso described the award as an endorsement of the CBN’s commitment to institutional resilience and national development, reaffirming the bank’s focus on macroeconomic stability, a stronger financial system and sustainable economic growth.
