The United Nations says it has trained nearly 200 community health officers in Rwanda as the country strengthens preparedness against a potential Ebola outbreak.
The training covered infection prevention and control, early detection and risk communication. The UN also assessed border crossings and health facilities, while supporting hygiene measures and training for Red Cross volunteers and ambulance drivers.
Rwanda has no confirmed Ebola cases but remains considered at risk because of its proximity to heavily affected areas in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Meanwhile, Kenya has strengthened preparedness at key western border points, training 35 health workers and engaging 45 border stakeholders in August. The measures are aimed at improving early detection and response as people and goods continue to move across the region.
