The Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN) says the poultry industry remains one of the fastest pathways to food security, job creation and wealth generation in Nigeria.
PAN South-East National Vice President, Mr Izuolisa Onu, made the statement during the opening of the 2026 Eastern International Poultry Summit in Enugu. The summit, themed “From the Farm to Market: Scaling Nigeria’s Poultry Trade and Investment,” brought together poultry farmers, experts and exhibitors from across the region and beyond.
Onu, who is also Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, identified high feed and day-old chick costs, weak cold-chain logistics and limited access to finance as some of the major challenges facing the sector.
Other stakeholders at the summit expressed support for expanding livestock and agro-industrial development in the South-East, with the South-East Development Commission also indicating plans to partner with PAN to create jobs and expand the poultry sector.
