POLICE ARREST 46 OVER ALLEGED OBSTRUCTION OF PETER OBI’S MOVEMENT IN BENUE

Listen

The Benue Police Command says it has arrested 46 suspects allegedly involved in obstructing Peter Obi’s movement during his visit to the state on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Commissioner of Police Cletus Nwadiogbu said the command had deployed security personnel after receiving information about Obi’s visit. He said officers later encountered an obstruction that created tension and could have escalated into violence.

According to the commissioner, police officers chose not to use immediate force to prevent possible loss of lives and destruction of property. Obi was eventually escorted safely back to the airport and left the state peacefully.

The police said investigations are ongoing, with efforts continuing to identify others connected to the incident. Nwadiogbu urged the public to remain calm and said those found culpable would be dealt with according to the law.
