Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo has banned night arrests across the state, directing security agencies to stop invading homes and apprehending residents during the night.
Ododo issued the directive on Monday, September 7, in Lokoja while addressing first-class traditional rulers. He said security agencies must follow due process, stressing that residents should not be harassed, intimidated or unlawfully detained.
The governor urged traditional rulers to report security personnel who violate the directive, assuring them that his administration would not tolerate abuse of power. He also warned residents against aiding criminals, particularly by providing food, logistics or information, and directed traditional rulers to caution woodcutters against collaborating with criminal elements.
Ahead of the forthcoming elections, Ododo called on traditional rulers to promote peace, neutrality and issue-based campaigns in their communities. He urged them to work with youths, community leaders and political stakeholders to prevent thuggery, violence and intimidation, while ensuring that citizens can exercise their democratic rights freely and peacefully.
