The Lagos State Government and China are set to strengthen cooperation in agricultural technology transfer, research, production and trade as part of efforts to transform the state’s agricultural and food systems.
The Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Agriculture and Food Systems, Dr Oluwarotimi Fashola, disclosed this on Thursday September 3, at a welcome dinner for the Lagos delegation that participated in the 2026 China-Nigeria Agricultural Technology Cooperation Seminar.
Fashola said the delegation gained practical exposure to mechanisation, smart agriculture, post-harvest management, processing, agricultural data, seed systems, branding and value-chain development. He said Lagos would seek to translate the experience into technology transfer, local adaptation, research collaboration, investment, increased production and improved market access.
China’s Consul General in Lagos, Ms Yan Yuqing, pledged the consulate’s support for stronger China-Nigeria cooperation beyond agriculture, including healthcare, new energy and vocational education. She also said the consulate would support Nigerian businesses participating in the forthcoming Cultural Fair and expand charity initiatives targeting women, children and young people in 2027.
