Troops of the Guards Brigade, Nigerian Army, have rescued Mrs Adonkie, wife of retired Brig.-Gen. Basil Adonkie, hours after she was abducted from her residence in Abuja.

The Army said the abduction occurred at about 10:30 p.m. on September 1, prompting a coordinated pursuit by troops from the Guards Brigade and Army Headquarters Garrison. The operation took security personnel through ACO Estate and Gosa Community before they made contact with the kidnappers.

The victim was rescued around Angwan-Sabo Village, while troops continued pursuing the fleeing suspects. Later, soldiers from the 176 Guards Battalion and 197 Special Forces Battalion intercepted two suspects around Gaube Village in Kuje Area Council and recovered an AK-47 rifle and a magazine containing 19 rounds of ammunition.

The Guards Brigade said Mrs Adonkie had been reunited with her family, while the two suspects remained in custody for profiling. Further operations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the kidnap group, with troops maintaining intensified security operations in the area.
