The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a man over the alleged diversion of 1,500 sachets of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) meant for malnourished children.
Police spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, said the suspect was arrested on August 26 after surveillance officers attached to Batagarawa Division intercepted him with three sacks containing the therapeutic food. The items were reportedly meant for free distribution at public healthcare facilities.
According to the command, the suspect allegedly told investigators that he obtained the products from a clinic staff member, who is currently at large. Police said the suspect remains in custody and is assisting with efforts to apprehend the fleeing individual and determine the extent of the alleged diversion network.
The Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar Fage, has ordered a thorough investigation, with suspects expected to face prosecution after the investigation. The command warned against the unauthorised possession, sale or diversion of RUTF and other public health supplies, urging residents to report suspicious activities to the police.
