The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, Hon. Ishaq Yunusa, has been killed by suspected gunmen along the Itobe–Ochadamu Expressway, with police and other security agencies launching a manhunt for the attackers.

The Kogi State Police Command said the incident occurred at about 5 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27, around Ojuwo Olijo in Ofu Local Government Area. According to the command, the attackers emerged from the surrounding bush and opened fire on motorists before abandoning a blue Toyota Corolla along the highway.

Police said Yunusa, who was driving the vehicle, was found dead inside, while another occupant was allegedly dragged into the bush by the assailants. Security operatives have since intensified operations in the area and are combing surrounding forests in an effort to rescue the abducted passenger and apprehend the attackers.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, ordered sustained operations along the affected corridor and directed personnel to bring those responsible to justice. Yunusa’s remains have been deposited at Grimard Hospital, Anyigba, for autopsy, while the police urged motorists and residents along the route to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
