Listen

The Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) has mourned the death of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) General Secretary, Mr Emmanuel Ugboaja, describing his passing as a major loss to Nigeria’s labour and industrial relations community.

NECA Director-General/Chief Executive, Mr Adewale-Smatt Oyerinde, conveyed the association’s condolences in a message on Friday, saying Ugboaja was a committed trade unionist who contributed significantly to workers’ interests, social dialogue and a stable industrial relations environment.

Oyerinde said Ugboaja played an important role in engagements involving organised labour, employers and government, drawing on his experience in industrial relations, negotiation and labour administration. He also acknowledged the late union leader’s contributions to collaboration between the organised labour and organised private sectors.

The NECA director-general said Ugboaja’s death had created a void among those committed to constructive social dialogue and decent work in Nigeria. He prayed for comfort for the deceased’s family, colleagues, NLC leadership and the wider labour movement, and for the repose of his soul.
