Nigeria’s Falconets secured a morale-boosting 1-0 victory over Poland in an international friendly on Friday as the team intensified preparations for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
Mary Mamudu scored the decisive goal in first-half stoppage time at the Municipal Stadium in Brzeg, putting Nigeria ahead in the 45th minute plus one. The Falconets held on after the break as neither side found the net again.
The victory is Nigeria’s first of two scheduled warm-up matches in Poland. The Falconets will face South Korea on Sept. 1 at the Remes Resort and Spa Football Stadium before beginning their World Cup campaign in Group F against Spain on Sept. 7.
Nigeria will also face China PR and New Caledonia in the group stage. The Falconets, two-time World Cup runners-up in 2010 and 2014, are aiming to go one step further and claim their first global title.
