President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to expanding Nigeria’s maritime sector and positioning the country as a major cargo hub for West and Central Africa.
Tinubu made the commitment when he received the Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Dayo Mobereola, at the State House in Abuja. Mobereola briefed the President on the agency’s progress over the past two years and challenges facing the maritime industry.
The President said the creation of the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy was a deliberate step toward unlocking Nigeria’s maritime potential and increasing the sector’s contribution to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). He also commended NIMASA for its achievements in advancing the sector.
Tinubu urged NIMASA’s management to sustain efforts in regulation, maritime safety and capacity development. He charged Mobereola and his team to continue repositioning the agency for greater efficiency, competitiveness and stronger global relevance.
