Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has ordered an investigation into allegations that equipment donated to Umaisha General Hospital was diverted or stolen, directing that anyone found culpable should be dismissed and prosecuted.
Sule gave the directive on Wednesday in Lafia following a viral video in which Ibrahim Sa’ad, member representing Ugya/Umaisha State Constituency in the State House of Assembly, alleged that orthopaedic mattresses and fans he donated to the hospital had been stolen.
The governor described the alleged diversion and sale of the equipment as unacceptable and harmful to healthcare delivery. He directed the Commissioner for Health to investigate the matter and submit a report, stressing that those found responsible would face legal consequences.
Meanwhile, Sa’ad said the Ministry of Health and the Hospital Management Board had responded promptly and expressed optimism that the issue had been resolved. He explained that the items were donated more than two years ago, with some kept in the hospital store while others were used in staff quarters. He said his action was not politically motivated or intended to discredit the ministry, urging continued support for initiatives that improve healthcare for ordinary Nigerians.
