Eccentric entertainer and social activist Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, says his memoir 999 and the Charly Boy Foundation are set for an international tour following the successful launch of the book in Lagos.
The memoir, which features a foreword by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, was unveiled on July 31 and offers a personal account of the man behind the Charly Boy brand.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, the entertainer said the international tour would begin in London in September, followed by events in Germany, Kenya and other locations. He added that Obasanjo and other members of his team were expected to support the global presentation of the book.
Beyond promoting 999, Charly Boy said the tour would provide an opportunity for the Charly Boy Foundation to extend its campaign on men’s health and prostate cancer awareness to Nigerians living abroad. He said his personal experience with prostate cancer motivated him to encourage men to undergo voluntary tests for early detection and treatment.
Charly Boy also spoke about his longstanding relationship with Obasanjo, describing it as one built on mutual respect, shared ideals and honest conversations. He said the former president recognised his courage and consistency, while he looked beyond Obasanjo’s military and political background to appreciate his experiences as a leader.
