Nigeria’s senior women’s volleyball team secured a dramatic 3-2 victory over Ghana at the 2026 CAVB Women’s African Nations Championship in Nairobi, Kenya.
The Nigerian team won the opening set 25-21, but Ghana fought back to take the second set by the same score. Nigeria regained control with a dominant 25-11 victory in the third set, putting the team one set away from victory.
Ghana refused to surrender, responding with another 25-11 win in the fourth set to force a decisive fifth set. Nigeria eventually held its nerve to win the final set 18-16, sealing a hard-fought 3-2 triumph.
The victory keeps Nigeria in second position in Group C and sets up a crucial final group match against Cameroon. The tournament is being staged in Nairobi from August 25 to September 4, with the continental title and qualification for major international competitions at stake.
The championship also serves as a pathway to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, while the top three teams will qualify for the 2027 FIVB Women’s World Championship.
