Nigeria’s women’s beach volleyball team has advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2026 African Beach Volleyball Championships in Alexandria, Egypt, after defeating the hosts 2-0 on Friday.
The Nigerian pair of Esther Mba and Pamela Bawa secured the victory in straight sets, winning 21-17 and 21-16 to book their place among the final eight teams.
Mba and Bawa dominated the opening set before maintaining their momentum in the second, completing a convincing victory over the Egyptian duo.
Nigeria Volleyball Federation board member, Chinedu Onikeku, praised the players for their performance, saying they had bounced back strongly from their group-stage defeat to Morocco.
She described the victory as a strong statement from the Nigerian team and commended Mba and Bawa for demonstrating that Nigeria remains a force in African beach volleyball.
Nigeria will qualify directly for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games if the women’s team wins gold in the championship.
