NAVY DISCOVERS, DEACTIVATES SUSPECTED ILLEGAL CRUDE OIL FACILITY IN RIVERS

Listen

The Nigerian Navy has discovered and deactivated a suspected illegal crude oil storage facility containing an estimated 93,000 litres of suspected stolen crude oil in Rivers State.

The operation was carried out by personnel of Forward Operating Base BONNY on Thursday at Allison Community in Bonny Local Government Area under Operation DELTA SENTINEL, following intelligence on suspected crude oil theft activities.

According to the Director of Naval Information, Capt. Abiodun Folorunsho, the personnel discovered 10 dugout pits, five of which contained the suspected stolen crude oil, while the remaining five were filled with water. Several hoses believed to have been used for the movement and transfer of crude oil were also found at the site.

The Navy said the recovered products, pits and associated materials were handled in line with established operational procedures. It added that the operation disrupted the infrastructure supporting suspected crude oil theft and illegal bunkering in the area.

The service reaffirmed its commitment to protecting critical national assets and oil and gas infrastructure, while sustaining operations to disrupt networks involved in the illegal exploitation of Nigeria’s natural resources.
