NYSC DG URGES CORPS MEMBERS TO VERIFY SOCIAL MEDIA CONTENT AHEAD OF 2027 ELECTIONS

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, has urged corps members to use social media responsibly and verify information before sharing, particularly ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Nafiu gave the advice on Wednesday while addressing corps members during an inspection visit to the NYSC permanent orientation camp in Katsina. He urged them to develop critical thinking skills and be cautious of false, manipulated and artificial intelligence-generated content.

The NYSC boss cited instances where old photographs and videos had been circulated as recent events involving the scheme. He reminded corps members that, as graduates, they had a responsibility to prevent misinformation from spreading through their platforms.

He also warned corps members against partisan political activities while identifying themselves as members of the scheme. He disclosed that they could be deployed as ad-hoc electoral personnel by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the 2027 elections.

Nafiu urged corps members to remain politically neutral and make themselves available if called upon to support the electoral process, describing such participation as an opportunity to help Nigerians exercise their constitutional right to vote.

He further encouraged the corps members to use their education and skills to contribute positively to national development, unity and democratic progress.
