Beninese music icon Angélique Kidjo is set to make history as the first African musician to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
According to Billboard, the five-time Grammy Award winner will receive the honour in the Recording category during a ceremony at 7011 Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles. The recognition will also make her the first Black African to receive a star on the famous landmark.
The ceremony is expected to feature actor Willem Dafoe and music executive Harvey Mason Jr. as guest speakers. Kidjo has built an acclaimed international career spanning music, cultural advocacy and humanitarian work, using her platform to promote African culture and support social causes.
Her Hollywood recognition adds to a long list of international honours and further highlights the growing global influence of African music. The Walk of Fame features more than 2,800 stars honouring notable figures and characters for achievements in entertainment.
