FG DEPLOYS PLATFORM TO TRACK VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN CASES

Listen

The Federal Government has deployed Nigeria’s first standardised justice-sector platform for tracking cases of violence against women, in a move aimed at improving Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) data, case monitoring and accountability.

Developed by the Federal Ministry of Justice with support from the European Union-funded End Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Programme, implemented by International IDEA, the platform will track cases from the point of reporting through investigation, prosecution and resolution.

International IDEA’s GBV Policy and Strategy Development Specialist, Melissa Omene, said the system would address fragmented data collection across justice institutions and provide standardised information on reported cases, prosecutions, convictions and pending matters.

Officials said the platform would also allow justice institutions to monitor implementation of relevant laws, including the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act. Members of the public will have an avenue to report cases, with complaints routed to appropriate state desk officers for follow-up.

The Federal Ministry of Justice urged SGBV desk officers to maintain accurate, complete and timely records, noting that poor documentation and inconsistent case tracking had continued to undermine efforts to secure justice for survivors.
