President Bola Tinubu has congratulated former military Head of State, retired Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, on his 85th birthday, describing him as an outstanding Nigerian leader.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu said Babangida’s military career culminated in his emergence as Nigeria’s leader following the 1985 coup. He noted that the former leader’s eight-year administration left significant marks on the country’s political, economic and geographical landscape.
The President credited Babangida with contributing to economic expansion, infrastructure development and the establishment of institutions that continue to serve the country. He also said the former military leader had played a role in shaping Nigeria’s geographical structure.
Tinubu said Babangida remained relevant to national discourse despite his retirement from public life, noting that his counsel continued to inspire younger generations.
The President wished the former Head of State good health, strength and many more years, while praying for continued grace and service to Nigeria.
