FRSC ARRESTS DRIVER FOR CONCEALING 15 PASSENGERS, 8 MOTORCYCLES IN TRUCK

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has arrested a driver, Umar Muhammadu, for allegedly carrying out illegal mixed loading after 15 passengers and eight motorcycles were found concealed beneath the covering of a Mitsubishi Canter truck.

The FRSC Corps Public Education Officer, Osondu Ohaeri, said the vehicle, with registration number GDD 815 ZP, was intercepted after marshals became suspicious of its sealed covering. The occupants and motorcycles were reportedly concealed among goods, posing serious risks to them and other road users.

Ohaeri said the driver allegedly attempted to influence a marshal with 500 naira and could not produce a valid driver’s licence. The vehicle and occupants were subsequently handed over to the Mararaba Divisional Police Officer for investigation and prosecution.

In a separate incident in Abia, a Mobile Court sentenced Azubuike Dominic to one month imprisonment at Afara Correctional Centre for driving without a valid licence. The driver reportedly absconded while being escorted to court but was later re-arrested following a coordinated pursuit involving FRSC personnel and the military.

The FRSC warned motorists, particularly commercial vehicle operators, against overloading, concealing passengers or motorcycles and driving without valid licences. The Corps said it would continue to combine enforcement, intelligence, mobile courts and inter-agency collaboration to improve road safety.
