Algeria have won the bronze medal at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after defeating hosts Morocco 3-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in the third-place playoff.
Morocco took the lead in the first half through Kautar Azraf and went into the break ahead. The hosts thought they had extended their advantage after the restart when Maryam Atiq found the net, but the goal was ruled out.
Algeria continued to push for an equaliser and were rewarded in the 83rd minute when Lina Boussaha scored to make it 1-1. Neither side could find a winning goal before the end of regulation time.
The match was subsequently decided by penalties, with Algeria keeping their composure to win 3-2 and claim third place. The result gave the Algerians their first bronze medal of the tournament.
The 2026 WAFCON title will be decided on Sunday when Cameroon face Malawi in the final.
