Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) has trained and graduated more than 50 Nigerians in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), welding and automotive fibreglass technology under a skills development programme valued at about 60 million naira.
The graduates completed certified short courses under the institution’s TETFund Centre of Excellence in Skills, Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Development. Each participant received training estimated at 1.2 million naira as part of efforts to equip Nigerians with practical skills for the evolving economy.
Yabatech Rector, Dr Ibraheem Abdul, described the graduates as potential solution providers and industry leaders, urging them to use their new skills to promote self-reliance, innovation and technological development.
The Technical Advisory Committee Acting Chairman, Dr Lauretta Ofodile, also encouraged the graduates to pursue further training, research and industry exposure while maintaining professional integrity and continuously improving their skills.
Yabatech said the programme benefited from partnerships with Automedics Nigeria Ltd. and IVIX Design Ltd., which provided practical exposure in areas including CNG installation, calibration and automotive maintenance.
The institution said the initiative had strengthened collaboration between academia and industry while promoting entrepreneurship. Graduates also received starter packs to help them apply their skills professionally and contribute to Nigeria’s technical and industrial development.
