Nigeria’s Junior YellowGreens recorded a commanding 407-run victory over Mozambique on Thursday in their fourth match of the ongoing ICC U-19 World Cup qualifier in Kigali, Rwanda.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Nigeria produced its strongest batting performance of the tournament, posting 461 runs for six wickets in 50 overs.
Bright Nyong was the standout performer, smashing an unbeaten 137 runs off 53 balls. Peculiar Egemasi also impressed with 123 runs from 84 balls, while Hossana Omonkhobio contributed 84 runs off 73 deliveries. Captain Rahmon Ali added 41 runs.
Mozambique struggled in reply, with Nigeria’s bowlers dominating from the outset. The hosts were eventually bowled out for just 54 runs in 23 overs, with only Rodrigues Mangue (19) and Emerson Ndzeute (11) reaching double figures.
The emphatic victory gives Nigeria valuable momentum in its bid to qualify for the U-19 World Cup, following another strong performance in the tournament.
