The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, also known as the Taskforce, has arrested three suspected members of a syndicate allegedly involved in stealing vehicle parts.
The Taskforce Chairman, CSP Adetayo Akerele, said the suspects were apprehended at the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) in Oshodi while allegedly attempting to remove the electronic control unit, commonly known as a brain-box, from a Toyota Hilux used for official operations.
Akerele said the suspects were tracked following complaints about the theft of vehicle components, including batteries, brain-boxes, spare tyres and jacks from vehicles parked in garages and residential compounds. A fourth suspect, identified as Tony, is reportedly at large and allegedly receives stolen vehicle parts.
According to the Taskforce, preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects targeted unattended vehicles and allegedly sold stolen components. One of the suspects reportedly implicated the others during questioning after they were unable to substantiate claims that they operated a legitimate scrap-metal business.
Akerele said investigations were ongoing and that the suspects would be prosecuted if found culpable. He warned those involved in the theft and trading of vehicle parts to desist from the practice.
The chairman also urged residents to report suspicious activities through official channels, assuring Lagosians that the agency would continue efforts to protect vehicle owners and strengthen public safety.
