The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday held its maiden fitness walk in Lagos, bringing together staff, partners and stakeholders to promote healthy living, teamwork and stronger workplace relationships.
The event, organised in partnership with Alfa Designs Nigeria Ltd., was held under the theme “Walking Together for Health and Excellence.” Managing Director of NAN, Ali M. Ali, said the initiative was designed to promote physical wellness, staff unity and sustainable engagement across the agency.
Ali noted that the demanding nature of journalism often leaves little time for physical activity, urging journalists to make fitness and healthy living part of their daily routines. He said a healthy workforce was essential for improved productivity and encouraged NAN workers nationwide to treat fitness as a lifestyle rather than an occasional activity.
The Head of NAN Lagos Operations, Ifeyinwa Omowole, said the exercise also provided an opportunity for workers to learn practical healthy habits, including maintaining proper sitting positions, taking regular breaks from computers and resting their eyes. She added that the quarterly walk would help strengthen relationships among staff working in different locations.
The Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Kevin Okunzuwa, said the programme was created to give journalists a break from the pressures of their profession while encouraging interaction among staff, partners and security agencies. Other participants and partners, including NEMA and LASTMA, also supported the initiative.
The event featured exercise, medical checks and a raffle draw, providing NAN staff, management, partners and retired members of the agency an opportunity to connect while promoting the importance of physical fitness and overall wellbeing.
