Vet Konect, a digital animal health platform, has graduated the first cohort of beneficiaries under its Women in Poultry Initiative (WIPI), equipping women with practical skills and support to establish sustainable poultry businesses.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony in Makurdi, the founder and CEO of Vet Konect, Dr Shadrach Akpem, said the initiative provides beneficiaries with poultry training, veterinary support, mentorship and market access. Each participant received 50 broiler chicks, feed support and other technical assistance instead of cash.
Akpem said the programme was designed to promote financial independence, improve household incomes and help women develop poultry ventures capable of creating jobs and generating long-term income. He added that Vet Konect was exploring financing and expansion opportunities for successful participants.
The WIPI Project Coordinator, Dr Motunrayo Ajir, urged the beneficiaries to apply the knowledge acquired, maintain proper farm records and uphold good poultry management practices. Other stakeholders also commended the initiative for strengthening women’s entrepreneurship and contributing to food security.
Some beneficiaries said the programme had improved their poultry management, marketing skills and confidence. The ceremony featured the presentation of certificates and production inputs to the graduating participants.
