Suspected bandits have attacked Lata Nna community in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing a woman and abducting a resident in the latest incident to raise security concerns in Kwara North.
Residents said the attackers invaded the community early Sunday, prompting villagers to flee as gunshots were heard. The incident reportedly occurred less than 24 hours after another resident, Mohammed Abubakar Ndakpada Lata, was allegedly abducted while returning from his farm.
According to a resident, the kidnappers have contacted Ndakpada Lata’s family and demanded a N100 million ransom for his release. Another woman was also reportedly killed after she encountered the attackers while gathering firewood near the community.
Residents lamented the absence of a permanent security presence in the area, saying Lata Nna had suffered repeated attacks in recent months despite appeals for stronger protection. They said local vigilantes responded to the latest incident but were unable to prevent the reported killing and abduction.
The latest attack has renewed calls for urgent intervention by the government and security agencies. Residents are appealing for increased patrols and the establishment of a permanent security presence to protect vulnerable rural communities in Patigi and other parts of Kwara North.
