The Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC) has lifted its suspension of Christian pilgrimage to Israel following an on-the-spot assessment of the security situation in Jerusalem by its Executive Secretary, Bishop Stephen Adegbite.
Adegbite announced the decision on Saturday after spending three days in Jerusalem, where he assessed the security atmosphere. The commission had suspended pilgrimage activities to Israel and the wider region in February amid heightened tensions linked to the US-Israel-Iran conflict.
Under the new arrangement, Nigerian pilgrims will be permitted to travel to Israel through Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv. However, pilgrimage routes through Jordan will remain suspended due to ongoing security concerns in the country.
Adegbite assured prospective pilgrims that the commission would continue to prioritise their safety and expressed confidence in the resumption of the 2026 pilgrimage exercise. The NCPC coordinates and supervises the movement of Nigerian Christian pilgrims to major holy sites, including those in Israel, Jordan and Rome.
