Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has presented land allocation letters to 98 indigenous communities within the Ito-Omu New Town project area, describing the move as a major step towards inclusive and well-planned development in the rapidly growing Lekki-Epe corridor.
The governor said the allocation recognises the rights of long-established communities and guarantees their place in Lagos’ future growth. He noted that years of consultations with traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders helped shape the development plan, which combines residential, commercial, industrial and institutional projects while protecting indigenous interests.
Sanwo-Olu assured beneficiaries that the allocation letters represent more than official documents, stressing that they affirm the communities’ role in the state’s long-term development. He also pledged continued investment in roads, bridges and other critical infrastructure to improve connectivity, attract investment and create jobs, while warning against land speculation.
The Lagos State Lands Bureau said the presentation fulfils a promise made to the affected communities in 2020 and follows the payment of over ₦3.1 billion in compensation to those impacted by the project. The Ito-Omu New Town initiative is expected to drive sustainable urban development while ensuring existing communities benefit from the transformation.
