The Nigerian Army has been recognised as Africa’s Best National Army in Counter-Terrorism Operations for 2025 by African Security Watch, in recognition of its efforts against terrorism and violent extremism across the country.
The award was presented to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, at the Army Headquarters in Abuja. He described the honour as a reflection of the courage, professionalism and resilience of officers and soldiers involved in counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations, dedicating the recognition to personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty and their families.
Shaibu reaffirmed the army’s commitment to strengthening intelligence-led operations, improving personnel welfare, enhancing joint security collaboration and acquiring modern capabilities to address Nigeria’s evolving security challenges while contributing to regional peace and stability.
According to African Security Watch, the Nigerian Army earned the recognition for its coordinated operations, intelligence-driven campaigns, civil-military cooperation and capacity-building efforts, which it said have strengthened national and regional security.
