The Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service, Technical and Professional Services Employees (AUPCTRE) has urged the Federal Government to review its outsourcing policy, warning that it is contributing to job losses and weakening public service delivery across the country.
AUPCTRE National President, Comrade Benjamin Anthony, said excessive outsourcing, commercialisation and privatisation of government services have reduced direct employment opportunities for skilled workers while affecting the quality of service delivery. He noted that the trend could discourage young Nigerians from acquiring technical and vocational skills needed for national development.
Anthony also expressed concern over the decline in the maintenance of public facilities, arguing that outsourced workers often lack the same sense of ownership and responsibility as permanent employees. According to him, many government offices have deteriorated because maintenance responsibilities have been handed over to contractors.
The union called on the Federal Government to prioritise the direct employment of skilled workers, invest in human capacity and adopt policies that protect jobs, boost productivity and improve public service delivery across Nigeria.
