Nigeria has secured six medals at the 2026 Pan-African Mathematics Olympiad (PAMO) held in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire, highlighting the country’s growing strength in mathematics on the continental stage.
The National Mathematical Centre (NMC) said the Nigerian team won five silver medals and one bronze medal. Chimfimnanya Aghaduno and Damaris Oyerinde each claimed two silver medals—one in the main PAMO competition and another in the Pan-African Mathematics Olympiad for Girls (PAMO-G). Lius Liu also earned a silver medal, while Kingsley Enwere won a bronze medal.
Acting Director and Chief Executive of the NMC, Prof. Benjamin Oyelami, commended the Federal Government for supporting the team’s preparation and participation. He pledged to further strengthen training programmes to improve Nigeria’s performance at future international mathematics competitions.
Oyelami noted that the students emerged through the Nigerian National Mathematical Sciences Olympiad, adding that Nigeria also secured a bronze medal in the PAMO-G overall ranking. He reaffirmed the centre’s commitment to promoting excellence in mathematics education, research and talent development across the country.
