The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to strengthening its Aviation Command through sustained investment in modern air platforms and infrastructure to boost operations against bandits and terrorists across the country.
Speaking on Tuesday July 21, during the inauguration of the Coordinator, Nigerian Army Aviation residence and newly completed accommodation for officers and soldiers at the Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment in Giri, Abuja, Shaibu described Army Aviation as a vital force in modern warfare. He said its role in intelligence gathering, surveillance, troop movement, medical evacuation and precision operations remains crucial to ongoing counter-insurgency efforts.
The Army Chief urged aviation personnel to maximise available air assets to dominate the operational environment and deny criminal groups freedom of movement. He also said the new accommodation reflects his “Soldier First Culture” philosophy, which prioritises personnel welfare, morale and operational effectiveness.
Shaibu assured personnel that the Army would continue investing in modern aviation capabilities and welfare projects, while the Coordinator of the Nigerian Army Aviation Command, Brig.-Gen. Al-Amin Ibrahim, commended the initiative, saying it would enhance morale and strengthen the command’s ability to tackle Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
