Calls for political unity and stronger grassroots governance have dominated discussions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
A member of Lagos State’s Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), Akanni Seriki, has urged APC members across the country to close ranks and support the party’s candidates following the conclusion of primary elections. He stressed that party unity, reconciliation and discipline remain key to achieving electoral success in 2027.
At the same time, governance experts have backed President Bola Tinubu’s view that weak local government administration contributes to rising insecurity. According to them, granting local governments greater autonomy would improve service delivery, strengthen community-based security efforts and promote development in rural areas.
The experts also called for stronger accountability, transparency and citizen participation to ensure local governments effectively manage public resources and deliver results for communities.
As Nigeria prepares for another election cycle, both political leaders and policy experts agree that unity, effective governance and stronger institutions will play a crucial role in shaping the country’s future.
