The Ondo State Government has suspended 27 students from three public secondary schools in Akure over alleged acts of misconduct. The affected students are from Oyemekun Grammar School, Aquinas College and CAC Grammar School, with the Ministry of Education saying the action followed repeated cases of indiscipline despite several warnings.
The ministry said the suspension was based on allegations of gross misconduct and unruly behaviour, expressing concern over rising cases of bullying, fighting, truancy and the circulation of indecent videos on social media. It stressed that such actions disrupt learning and undermine the state’s education system.
According to the government, the suspended students will remain barred from their schools and all school-related activities while their cases are reviewed by the respective disciplinary committees in collaboration with the ministry. School administrators have also been directed to strengthen supervision and enforce disciplinary measures more effectively.
The ministry reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on serious misconduct and urged parents and guardians to work closely with schools in promoting discipline and good character. It also warned that students found guilty of bullying or other serious offences would face appropriate disciplinary action in line with established regulations.
