The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command, has celebrated 61 inmates of the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kurmawa, for successfully completing the memorisation and recitation of the Holy Qur’an. The command said the achievement reflects its commitment to rehabilitation and successful reintegration of inmates into society.
According to the NCoS, the graduates—55 males and six females—acquired the feat through structured religious instruction, with many having little or no knowledge of Qur’anic recitation before their admission into the facility. Officials described the programme as evidence of the positive impact of faith-based rehabilitation.
The command, in partnership with the Chokali Humanitarian Foundation, presented the graduates with welfare packages, including clothing, mattresses, blankets and financial support to encourage personal development after their release. The Controller of Corrections, Ahmed Yusuf-Lakpene, also commended the nationwide educational and vocational reforms being promoted by the Controller-General of Corrections.
The Kano State Government reaffirmed its commitment to inmate welfare, while correctional officials encouraged the graduates to uphold discipline, good character and positive values. They also urged other inmates to embrace rehabilitation programmes that prepare them for productive lives after serving their custodial terms.
