TAILOR DOCKED FOR ALLEGEDLY STEALING EMPLOYER’S INDUSTRIAL SEWING MACHINE

Listen

Police on Wednesday July 8 arraigned a tailor, Yakubu Kabiru, in a Life Camp Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing employer’s industrial sewing machine. Kabiru, 24, was charged with house breaking and theft, which he partly denied.

The Prosecutor Bankole Babatunde told the court that the complainant, Mr Mohammed Jibrin, of Life camp Abuja, on July 4 reported a case of burglary at the Life camp Police Station. He stated that on May 29, the defendant, Kabiru, who was a former casual staff member attached to the Jibrin’s tailoring shop at Angwan Beriberi village, Life Camp, Abuja, broke into the said shop, and made away with an Emel industrial machine and some customers’ fabrics all worth 1.2 million naira.

He told the court that Kabiru had made a confessional statement during police investigation admitting to stealing the machine and not the fabrics. He added that all efforts made to recover the stolen items proved abortive.

Magistrate Hauwa Aboki ordered that the bail application should be made formally to the court. She adjourned the case to August 13 for hearing.
