Mrs. Ebelechukwu Nwachukwu has made history as the first woman to lead the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA), following her inauguration as the association’s 27th Chairperson, 55 years after its establishment.

Assuming office at an investiture ceremony in Lagos, the Managing Director of Rex Insurance pledged to drive reforms aimed at increasing public confidence and expanding insurance penetration across Nigeria. She called on insurers, brokers, agents and insurtech firms to adopt coordinated awareness campaigns and simplify insurance communication to make products more accessible and better understood by Nigerians.

Nwachukwu stressed that prompt and transparent claims settlement remains the industry’s most effective marketing strategy, urging operators to strengthen professionalism, digital capability, risk management and enforcement of compulsory insurance. She also unveiled her administration’s A.C.E Agenda focused on Awareness, Capacity Building and Enforcement, to reposition the sector for sustainable growth.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Insurance and Chief Executive Officer of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), Mr. Olusegun Omosehin, congratulated Nwachukwu on her historic emergence and expressed confidence in her ability to deepen professionalism and accelerate the industry’s growth.

Omosehin urged insurers to prioritise prompt claims settlement, improve customer service, embrace digital innovation and support stricter enforcement of compulsory insurance. He reaffirmed NAICOM’s commitment to working with industry stakeholders to build a stronger, more transparent and trusted insurance sector.
