Nigeria is witnessing a sharp rise in technical college enrolment as ongoing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) reforms continue to attract more students, according to the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB).

Speaking during a monitoring visit to NABTEB practical examinations in Lagos, Registrar and CEO, Dr. Mohammed Aminu, revealed that enrolment increased from 92,260 candidates in 2025 to about 167,000 in 2026. He attributed the growth to Federal Government reforms aimed at strengthening technical and vocational education nationwide.

Aminu said technical colleges play a critical role in producing skilled, self-reliant graduates who can create jobs, support local industries and drive economic growth. He also stressed the need for continuous investment in modern equipment, teacher retraining and industry partnerships to sustain the progress.

The NABTEB boss urged young Nigerians to embrace technical education, describing it as a pathway to entrepreneurship, innovation and national development. He added that stronger technical education could help reduce unemployment and build the skilled workforce needed for Nigeria’s industrial future.
